Health and testing

Compared to other breeds German Spitz are a pretty healthy breed, but breeders are advised to make use of available health tests. These include but are not confined to:-
BVA annual Eye test
Putnam scheme Patella test
DNA parentage verification

There are very few German Spitz hip scored in the UK to date but as results abroad have shown to vary from excellent to severe, it may also be worth using the BVA hip scoring scheme to build up a better picture of breed health in the UK.
